Transfer News: Erik ten Hag wants Manchester United to sign Lisandro Martinez
According to Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Manchester United boss, Erik ten Hag has instructed the board to get the third signing of the season, Lisandro Martinez from Ajax wrapped up as soon as possible.
The ten Hag era has begun. Manchester United recently snapped up Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord as their first signing of the season and Christian Eriksen is expected to be on the way to Old Trafford as their second signing.
It has now emerged that the Dutch boss wants his board to get the third signing over the line as soon as possible and the player in question is Ajax centre-back Lisandro Martinez who ten Hag has worked with during his time at Amsterdam.
Manchester United’s interest in Martinez comes as no surprise as they have been linked with the defender for quite some time now along with Ajax. ten Hag is said to be keen on bringing the Argentinian to Old Trafford.
One of the best young centre-backs in the world of football, Martinez has grown leaps and bounds during his time at Amsterdam. He has become a very dependable player for the Eredivisie champions over time.
The 24-year-old joined Ajax from Defensa in 2019. He had an exceptional previous campaign as well under ten Hag, playing 36 games across all competitions scoring one goal and providing four assists across all competitions.
Martinez is very unique in the fact that the talented Argentinian can play in multiple positions. The 24-year-old defender is most at home at centre-back but is capable of playing at left-back and defensive midfield as well.
Although he has been a huge success at the club level, Martinez is yet to crack the code at the national level struggling to break into a defence consisting of Christian Romero and Nicolas Otamendi amongst others.
Maybe a move to Man United where he is in constant limelight might just be what Martinez needs to break into Lionel Scaloni’s side. With a World cup on the horizon, this could just be the perfect solution for Martinez.

Ten Hag is right, United need to sign Lisandro Martinez as soon as possible. He could be the solution to our defensive woes and could form a great partnership with Raphael Varane. Let’s hope the Argentinian chooses to come here.
