Arsenal agree to personal terms with Manchester United transfer target Youri Tielemans
According to Ben Jacobs of CBS Sports Golazo on Twitter (h/t The Express), Arsenal has agreed to personal terms with Leicester City star Youri Tielemans, who is a transfer target for Manchester United. Both clubs are currently battling it out for his services, but it seems that the former are in the lead right now.
Tielemans has one year left in his current contract with Leicester, but he has decided to leave them this summer. He has also made up his mind to move to the Emirates and has now reached an agreement over the personal terms involved with the Gunners should a transfer materialise moving forward.
The Foxes have already seen their attempts to renew the Belgian fail several times and could be forced to part ways with them if they do not want to lose him for free next summer. That being said, Mikel Arteta’s side have not found common ground with Leicester, even with their advantage.
Man Utd need Tielemans?
Following the departures of Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata on free transfers, our options have become quite thin, which is not ideal at all. After all, Erik ten Hag would need to manage his squad to keep them fresh through the congested fixture list.
That is not possible with our current set of options which calls for the need for reinforcements. Moreover, the introduction of the five substitution rule gives all the more reason to add more options to get the maximum benefit out of that change.
Tielemans, who has valuable Premier League experience in his bag, would have greatly helped in uplifting our squad’s quality. Ten Hag also believes that to be the case as he is interested in managing the central midfielder in the upcoming season if possible.

However, if there are plans to sign Tielemans, then this update would undoubtedly dampen our hopes of securing his signature. Fortunately, the North London side have not taken the next step by making a transfer bid despite maintaining contact with the 25-year-old’s representative.
Arsenal remain adamant that Fabio Vieira’s signing has not stopped their pursuit of Tielemans, although they are still deciding whether to target the latter or not. Their hesitation may just pave the road for us, although we need to keep an eye out for Tottenham Hotspur and Real Madrid despite only expressing tentative interest.
