Everton make “pitch” to sign Christian Eriksen amidst Manchester United interest

According to inews (h/t The Sun), Everton have made their “pitch” to Christian Eriksen to convince him about a potential move amidst interest from Manchester United. His future is up for grabs at this moment after returning to action splendidly following his unfortunate cardiac arrest last summer.

Eriksen is out of contract as his short-term deal with Brentford has expired, having joined them back in the January transfer window. He was impressive for them since then and even carried that form into the international stage, which has earned him interest from several Premier League sides.

Man United are one of them, and now it looks like the Toffees are in the fray as well. The latter have made their case with the Dane, but whether he will consider their offer or not remains to be seen. The Bees are in the mix to keep hold of the midfielder, resulting in a tussle between the clubs.

What’s next from Eriksen?

Donny van de Beek returning from his loan spell at Goodison Park to Carrington would mean that a spot is freed up for Eriksen to become a regular for them. Should the latter move there, he would probably become a starter as his competitor Dele Alli has not been in the best run of form for quite some time.

That being said, Frank Lampard’s side narrowly missed out on relegation in the last campaign, so moving there comes with lots of risks right now. That is the case when there are other options available for Eriksen to choose from at this point.

That certainly would be a boost for us, although competition in the number ten role reduces our chances as well. Van de Beek and Bruno Fernandes are already competing for the attacking midfield position, so one might question whether Eriksen would want to join us in this case.

Erik ten Hag has identified Eriksen as one of his targets for this summer, so it would be best if the Red Devils hierarchy tries their best to succeed in their attempt to sign the midfielder. That could be quite a stern challenge indeed, with Thomas Frank’s side being in this pursuit.

After all, Frank’s team were the ones who gave Eriksen a chance back to top-flight football, so the 30-year-old may hold some kind of emotional value for their trust. Fortunately for us, it is touted that he may not rejoin them, which means we still stand a shot at adding him to our ranks this summer.
