Manchester United dealt transfer blow as Leicester City star Youri Tielemans favours Arsenal move
According to The Guardian, Manchester United have received a blow in their pursuit of Leicester City star Youri Tielemans as he favours a transfer move to Arsenal. He has been linked with a move elsewhere in the summer transfer window, which could be realised shortly.
Tielemans have emerged to become a potential transfer target for Man United this summer. That is not surprising considering how they have been subjected to a massive exodus in midfield recently. However, they could find it difficult to facilitate a move going by this latest update.
The Belgian midfielder has set his mind about moving to London rather than relocating to Manchester ahead of the next season. The Gunners are still optimistic about completing a move and securing Tielemans’ signature, which would further be heightened by this piece of information.
Tielemans, a good option for Man Utd?
Despite Leicester’s struggles in the previous campaign, the 25-year-old had enjoyed a solid season on a personal level. He made 50 appearances for them during that period and scored seven goals, and assisted five times across all competitions, which is an impressive return for a midfielder.
Following the departures of the likes of Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Jesse Lingard, and Juan Mata on free transfers, our depth in midfield has reduced considerably. That is quite risky looking at the different competitions that we will be engaged in in the upcoming season.
Furthermore, the introduction of the five substitution rule further calls for the need to get the best out of that benefit by utilising the squad to the full extent. That means signing just Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona would not be enough to solve our problems right now.

Tielemans, who has a contract until 2023 with the Foxes, would be a great addition, considering the Premier League experience he has earned over the years. Not to mention, Brendan Rodgers’ side could perhaps be forced to sell him on a cut-price deal if they do not want to lose him on a free transfer next summer.
However, those hopes have now been dampened after the Belgian international intention to team up with Mikel Arteta has been revealed. That is a damning blow indeed as our direct rivals will be strengthened by his addition should they complete a move this summer.
