Transfer News: Manchester United join race for Christian Eriksen on a free transfer
According to the Mirror, Manchester United are set to join the race for signing talented Danish playmaker Christian Eriksen on a free transfer upon the expiry of his contract at Brentford.
Eriksen joined Brentford on a short-term six-month contract back in January after being released by Inter Milan sometime back. The Danish superstar has had a great time with the Bees and has shown the entire world his potential and the fact that he still has what it takes to be an important player.
The 30-year-old attacking midfielder has played 11 times in the Premier League for Thomas Frank’s side scoring one goal and providing four assists. The former Tottenham man has been influential for the Bees whenever he has played on the pitch this season.
Tottenham and Everton have already been in the race to sign the Danish playmaker but it has now emerged that Erik ten Hag wants to sign the player on a free this summer to Manchester United.
Best footballing story?
Little over a year ago, when Christian Eriksen suffered the unfortunate Cardiac arrest during the Euros, not many people believed that the Danish playmaker would play football again.
However, the 30-year-old has roared back in style, picking off from where he left off and if anything, in even better form right now. The Dane could choose to stay at Brentford but if he feels he is ready for a big move, there are many doors open for him.
The Red Devils are set to undergo a major overhaul in the summer after yet another disappointing season. Erik ten Hag is set to assume responsibilities as the new United manager and a huge squad overhaul seems to be the need of the hour.
United will have to loosen the purse strings to sign players and reinforce their squad but in such a situation, signing Christian Eriksen on a free almost seems irresistible. If Erik ten Hag actually wants him, he would definitely have a plan to use the Dane.

It remains to be seen if the Red Devils manage to convince the talented playmaker to come to Old Trafford. On a free transfer, Christian Eriksen’s signing cannot go wrong and it is a gamble worth taking.
At its worst, we will get a squad player who would provide an extra pair of legs in cup games. And if the potential signing succeeds, Man Utd could have one of Denmark’s finest-ever exports to England running things in midfield.
