Manchester United held two rounds of talks with Braga centre-back David Carmo
According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United have held two rounds of talks with Braga centre-back David Carmo regarding a potential transfer in the future. He has been excellent since returning to action after being out of contention for a long time with a serious ankle injury.
Carmo is one of the upcoming superstars in the Primeira Liga division, and his splendid displays earned him his first call-up to the Portuguese national team last week. Man United are searching the market for options to bolster their defence and have identified the 22-year-old as a suitable choice to meet their needs.
That being said, the Red Devils view the Portuguese defender as a secondary option if they fail to get their primary target. Jurrien Timber of Ajax is their priority at this stage, with Erik ten Hag also preferring him, having been previously affiliated with the centre-half during their time together at Ajax.
Man Utd taking right steps
It is good to know that the Mancunians are not taking anything for granted and are preparing for all possible situations ahead of the next season. Pursuing Timber certainly makes sense, with ten Hag helping him to become one of the best young centre-halves in world football at this moment.
Timber can also put in a shift at right-back, which makes it more understandable why he is the priority target as of now. Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s future at Old Trafford is surrounded by uncertainty, adding to the list of reasons why signing the Dutch prospect is preferred by those at the club.
However, plans must be laid for a situation where they fail to sign Timber, which seems to be happening right now. While Carmo did suffer a horrific injury, his performances since then indicate that he has not been affected by that blow and is on track to fulfilling his potential in the future.
Since recovering from the major setback, Carmo has helped his side to ten clean sheets from 16 appearances across all competitions. That is a great return for someone who has been brought into the mix after being on the sidelines for a long period.
We are desperate for centre-back signings this summer, with players like Phil Jones, Eric Bailly and Axel Tuanzebe being in line to leave ahead of the next term. At the same time, our remaining options have not performed at their best either, making it even more necessary to bring in quality additions.

It remains to be seen if the Manchester side would be able to sign Timber or not or whether they would turn their attention towards Carmo in the coming weeks. It seems that the Reds Devils are eager to get in a young centre-back for ten Hag to mould into a superstar.
He did so with Matthijs de Ligt in Amsterdam and there is no reason why he can’t repeat that trick in Manchester.
