Erik ten Hag urges Manchester United to invest £115million to sign Jurrien Timber and Darwin Nunez

According to Daily Mirror, new Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has directed his club to invest a significant amount of the transfer budget in securing the signatures of Ajax defender Jurrien Timber and Benfica striker Darwin Nunez.

ten Hag is believed to have spent his initial days at Old Trafford drawing up a potential transfer targets list after a detailed discussion with football director John Murtough, technical director Darren Fletcher and Ralf Rangnick- who has now, of course, left the club.

The Dutch manager is eyeing six reinforcements in the following summer window with two new full-backs, a midfielder and another forward seeming to be top of his list. However, he understands that his transfer demands highly depend on how much the team raises through the departure of unwanted players.

The Red Devils have been heavily linked with Ajax defender Jurrien Timber and Benfica striker Darwin Nunez in recent times. Both players could make a difference in the current United team.

Now, it is believed that the Dutchman asked the United board to spend £115million, which is a significant amount of the whole transfer budget on the signing of Timber and Nunez.

Is it a good move?

Erik ten Hag has emphasized the fact that he wants to include defenders who can play from the back. Having performed stupendously under the Dutch manager, Timber fills United’s requirement and he might be able to make a big difference.

Nunez seems to have stunned the footballing world with his sensational showings domestically and in Europe. Nunez could cost United £80million and Timber is valued at £35million.

The added fee of the duo seems to be a pretty big amount and if United spends the amount on them, they might not be able to be aggressive in the transfer race of other crucial targets.

United should think about the long term goals while making the huge investment. The big money moves of last summer haven’t lived up to expectations. And that is exactly why they cannot repeat the same mistakes again.

Timber is a young defender who seems to have the backing of ten Hag, the man we are trusting to lead us back to our glory days. But the Uruguayan striker Nunez arguably has just one very good season behind him. Spending a big amount on him could be risky.

There is an entire summer for ten Hag and co to bring in targets they want. There is no need to make panic signings and the club must take their time and find targets that fit ten Hag’s ideas and don’t impact the club’s financial health in a negative way.
