Manchester United forward Jadon Sancho looking forward to starting fresh again under Erik ten Hag next season

Speaking to Premier League Productions (h/t Daily Mail), Manchester United forward Jadon Sancho has opened up about the disappointments of the current campaign and said that he was looking forward to starting fresh again next season under a new manager.

Sancho completed his move to United last summer from Borussia Dortmund, after spending four years in Germany to hone his skills as an attacking threat. He has also become a full England international, becoming a part of the Three Lions squad that made it to the final of the UEFA 2020 Euros.

Ahead of the final game of the season, the Englishman spoke about his ambitions for next term and said that he was looking to start fresh again under a new manager. The winger believed that thinking positively would help, hoping that his career will take off soon.

“To start again fresh, with a new manager coming in, we’re looking forward to seeing what his ideas and plans for the team are. You only have to think positively. My career is only getting started and, hopefully, it will take off soon.”

The new season will see the arrival of Erik ten Hag as United’s new permanent manager, taking over from interim boss Ralf Rangnick. The Ajax Amsterdam head coach will be coming off the back of his third consecutive Eredivisie title triumph, ending his career in Holland on the best note possible.

“This has been a difficult season”

Although the Red Devils have endured a disappointing campaign, Sancho has provided some optimism. After a difficult start to life at Old Trafford, he hit a purple patch in 2022 and has sustained that form over a rough period of results for the team.

The England international reflected on the current season, saying that it was difficult to get through as a United player as the club is known for winning trophies. However, he insisted that everyone has to show belief again that the side will be successful in the future.

“This has been a difficult season, especially being a Manchester United player, with what the club has achieved over the years. United is known for winning trophies and being up there with the best. This season has been a difficult one for all of us, but I think we still have to show belief again.”

Much was expected of Sancho when he swapped Germany for England last summer and joined the Red Devils, but thus far, he has failed to meet those standards. He was a constant attacking threat for Dortmund last year and was a regular contributor to the side’s goals and assists.

However, it must be remembered that Sancho is still a young player and needs time to adapt to the Premier League. He is only 22 after all, and the English top flight is one of the hardest competitions to survive due to its physical and fast-paced nature.

After having spent a full season back in his native country, it remains to be seen if Sancho can get better and have a more direct impact on United’s attacking moves next term. As he mentioned, a new manager in ten Hag is arriving in the summer to usher in a new era at the club, and the winger could yet play a big part in the squad’s expected transformation.

Only time will tell if the Englishman is successful in the upcoming season, but his recent form up until his latest injury will give supporters hope. Hopefully, ten Hag is able to work his magic on Sancho and help him rediscover his best form once again in order to start fresh, as the winger mentioned.
