Manchester United discover fee for Wolves star Ruben Neves amidst competition from Arsenal
According to Spanish outlet AS, via Sport Witness (h/t Express), Manchester United are interested in signing Wolverhampton Wanderers star Ruben Neves at the end of the 2021-22 season, as the club looks to shore up their midfield.
Neves has been at Wolves since 2017, joining the then-Championship side from Porto after impressing in his native homeland. Since his debut, the midfielder has been a regular in the side and has been one of their standout players.
After helping the club earn promotion to the Premier League, the Portugal midfielder has been a revelation in England’s top flight, earning interest from other top clubs like Man United, who have seen the player in action many times before.
However, the club may also face a transfer battle for Neves from Arsenal, who are also looking for midfield reinforcements to complement Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey as the main midfield lynchpin.
Expensive buy from Wolves
The Red Devils midfield, meanwhile, has always been a weak link for the side, with a midfield general in the middle of the park missing from the team. Fred, Scott McTominay, and Nemanja Matic make up the defensive midfield position at Old Trafford currently, but Neves is sure to be an upgrade on the trio based on his performances.
However, Arsenal and Man United will need to shell out a whopping £42m for the ex-Porto man. He is an integral part of the setup at the Molineux Stadium alongside midfield partner Joao Moutinho, and Wolves will not let him go for cheap.
With a new permanent manager in the dugout from next season, Neves would be part of an expected new-look team as the Theatre of Dreams ushers in a new era. The club will be building towards winning trophies and league titles over the next few years, and the Portuguese star could be part of a legacy.
Neves was part of a Wolves team that went from being in the Championship to be regulars in the top half of the Premier League. At United, he could transform us from a club that battles for a top-four spot to title contenders.

Only 25, the Portugal international could look to make a name for himself in the coming years and establish himself in the United midfield for the future. Moving from Wolves to Man United is a big step up for any player, but Neves looks like a confident player ready for challenges.
It remains to be seen who the new manager at Old Trafford will be, but whoever it is, having the Portuguese star in their side will only benefit them. Once known for scoring great goals against us, we could probably see him score goals for us next term.
