Edinson Cavani expresses discontent at his recent injury struggles at Manchester United

Edinson Cavani has weighed in on the recent injury struggles he has suffered at Manchester United this season. He has been out on the sidelines with a thigh problem since the 1-1 draw against Burnley back at the start of February.

The Uruguayan could possibly be in contention to feature in the Premier League fixture later today against Tottenham Hotspur. Ralf Rangnick has confirmed that the striker has returned to team training sessions, which would be a boost to the Red Devils. That being said, the boss could decide to take it slow since the attacker has been out on the stands for some time.

Speaking in an interview with the club’s media (h/t Manchester United official website), Cavani has opened up about the experience of dealing with these setbacks. He has admitted that it is very difficult physically and mentally to deal with such issues that he has never experienced in the past.

“I’ve never been used to spending this length of time on the sidelines. It’s something that I’m finding very difficult. Mentally, it’s not easy either, because when you’re not used to it, it really is extremely hard to take on board what is happening and seeing your teammates each game going out onto the pitch, either for training or to play in a match.”

“And you can’t be joining them out there, it’s hard to take, and it’s really frustrating that you’re feeling like that, and it makes you a bit anxious and really keen to be wanting to be fit and ready as quickly as possible.”

Can Cavani maintain his fitness?

The 35-year-old will see his current contract expire in the coming summer transfer window. He is certain to leave us at the end of this season, considering how his time with his has become sour during the entirety of this season so far.

The summer arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo coupled with Cavani’s injury troubles has caused the latter to endure a difficult time in Manchester. That is a sharp contrast to his first season, which saw him quickly become a fan favourite after scoring vital goals, especially off the bench.

However, that is in the past as Cavani has returned to the fray ahead of some crucial fixtures. He could feature in some capacity later today when his team take on Tottenham at Old Trafford. This match could determine how our top-four challenge could shape up to be in the rest of this campaign.

Moreover, an equally important clash against Atletico Madrid in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 will follow after today’s game. Let’s hope that the former PSG man can give us his all to help with the cause moving forward.

Without Mason Greenwood and with a misfiring Ronaldo, it won’t be a surprise to see the Uruguayan come up against Antonio Conte’s men tonight. He has played against the Lilywhites twice in his United career, winning both and scoring a goal in each game.
