According to SportsMole, Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick has confirmed that striker Edinson Cavani has communicated his intentions to stay at the club for the remainder of the season.
Edinson Cavani played an influential role for Manchester United last season. The Uruguay international bagged 17 goals and six assists in 39 appearances in the previous campaign and helped the Red Devils to secure the top four spot. Even though the former PSG star’s involvement has decreased after the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo, the 34-year-old has still managed to show great effort whenever he has featured.
In recent times, Cavani has been heavily linked with a move to FC Barcelona. However, it seems the Uruguay star has chosen to fight for a starting spot at Manchester United.
Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick has confirmed that Edinson Cavani has communicated his desire to stay at the club until his contract ends in the summer.
“I told him that if it was up to me, I would want him to stay, and I had a conversation with him. We spoke for almost half an hour, and he told me he will definitely stay and would want to stay until the end of the season.”
Rangnick suggested that Cavani wasn’t pressured at all into making the decision. Furthermore, The former PSG star has shown commitment towards the project of the German manager.
“Not only because I told him that he should stay or has to stay, he did it on his own behalf, and he told me that I can rely on him to stay until the end of the season and give his very best.”
Edinson Cavani is one of the best strikers of the generation. Even though the Uruguay international is currently edging the twilight of his career, he hasn’t given any loose performance in this campaign. In contrast, the 34-year-old showed a positive approach even when he wasn’t getting enough chances.
Manchester United star Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho have failed to hold consistency in this campaign. Even though youngster Mason Greenwood has shown the spark in some games, he has made many poor decisions, which suggest the youngster still needs some grooming.
United have a lot of talent. But the youngsters lack the maturity to perform in big games. There are very few players who understand how to win games better than Edinson Cavani and Cristiano Ronaldo. Therefore, Rangnick should use the expertise of such veteran players in challenging games. The German manager has to find a way to put both the players in the same starting line-up.
Cavani’s commitment shows that he is ready to contribute, and the German manager should provide him chances to showcase his worth in the second half of the season.
