Manchester United ready to make massive contract offer to Paul Pogba amidst contract stalemate

According to SunSport, Manchester United are ready to make Paul Pogba the highest-paid player in Premier League history amidst contract issues.

The 28-year-old star is set to be out of contract in the summer. He could leave in the summer as a free agent unless he pens a new deal at Old Trafford in the coming months. Man United are thought to be unwilling to let him leave in January, and understandably so, as it could derail our current campaign.

However, the Red Devils are prepared to keep him at the club beyond the summer. The central midfielder is apparently going to be made the highest-paid Premier League player in history. The Old Trafford outfit is willing to stump up an offer worth £400k-per-week plus add-ons, thereby offering him £100k more than he is expected to be offered from clubs around Europe.

But it is thought that Pogba is yet to make a decision over a new contract. Moreover, while a prospective suitor might not offer the same salary, the former Juventus star could be provided with a massive signing-on fee, especially since several clubs are interested in signing him on a free transfer.

Pogba to stay or leave?

The French international has been out injured since the start of November. However, his absence has been felt. The team have hit a creative block under new boss Ralf Rangnick, and perhaps Pogba could help change that once he fully recovers.

Ideally, it would also bode well if he stays beyond this season. However, paying him massive wages to do so would be an unwise decision. The central midfielder has never really acted as our main star nor has been crucial in delivering big titles. He is also set to turn 29 in the next couple of months.

Additionally, Man United have apparently already made plans to replace him. Declan Rice and Ruben Neves are being targeted, and they could change the face of our midfield. If keeping Pogba at the club would mean to miss out on either target, it would be a shame since the West Ham star and the Wolves ace are of a good age profile and have reasonable Premier League experience.

Thus, tying down the French international to a new contract is a good idea, but there is no need to make him the highest-paid player in the league. John Murtough and co have invested in good talents over the last couple of seasons, and if the midfielder does decide to leave, we could perhaps bring in the necessary reinforcements to fill his vacancy.

The money we were then planning to offer Pogba could be utilized elsewhere. A lot will become clear when we finally see Pogba in action under Rangnick. If things click and we find a perfect position for him, then who knows, maybe he can finally fulfill the potential that he showed during his time in Turin at Juventus.
