Transfer News: Manchester United handed blow by Ajax ace Ryan Gravenberch who looks set to sign new contract
Speaking to Voetbal International (h/t The Sun), Ryan Gravenberch recently revealed that he is set to sign a new contract at Ajax despite transfer interest from Manchester United.
The 19-year-old has been brilliant for the Dutch outfit since he made his debut in the 2018/19 season. However, his contributions really came to the fore last campaign as he contributed to 8 goals in 32 appearances in Ajax’s league triumph.
Hence, the youngster has caught the attention of several European clubs, including 13-time Premier League champions Man United. Moreover, his contract was set to expire in 2023, and he would only have had one year left on his contract next summer.
However, the player recently revealed that he is in talks to sign a new contract with the Eredivisie club.
“I am very happy at Ajax, and I don’t yet want to leave. I am in talks with the club about a new contract. Things are progressing, and hopefully, they will turn out well.
“I do not feel like this is my last season with Ajax. I feel that I can still learn a lot here, and I still want to win a lot of trophies with the club.”

The Red Devils could have certainly done with a talented midfielder like Gravenberch. Paul Pogba could seal a move out of Old Trafford next summer once his contract expires. Nemanja Matic could also leave once his current deal expires in 2023.
Gravenberch is rated at £30million, but his stock could rise if he continues the good progress. Moreover, if he signs a new contract, Ajax could command a hefty transfer fee for him if and when they do let him leave. Thus, once he puts pen to paper on a new deal, United shall have missed out on a great talent.
