Manchester United amongst four Premier League to be approved for safe standing in their stadium

According to The Sun, four Premier League clubs, including Manchester United, have been approved to conduct to trial ‘safe standing’ in their respective stadiums this season.

The outbreak of the Covid-19 back in March 2020 saw empty stadiums for over a year in the Premier League. After several vaccination drives and the necessary protocols, stadiums were filled to the maximum capacity again this season, and the experience is only going to better from hereon in.

As confirmed by Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries, four Premier League have been given the opportunity to trial ‘safe standing’ in their respective stadiums. Dorries told reporters in an interview (h/t The Sun):

“Football fans have long wanted the introduction of safe standing, and I’m pleased we are fulfilling our manifesto commitment by piloting its return.”

Safe standing has been considered illegal in Top division football in England ever since the introduction of all-seater stadiums in 1994, following the Hillsborough disaster that led to the death of 97 Liverpool fans.

Man United have also been given the green light to test safe standing in our iconic Old Trafford stadium. Although there has not been a lot to cheer about Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men in the last month or so, thousands of season ticket holders still flock to the red half of Manchester to watch the biggest players in the game compete in one of the hardest leagues in the world.

The arrival of Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo was met with a lot of aplomb, and this experience can only get better if every fan gets a premium action of similar moments.
