Former Manchester City star Trevor Sinclair criticises Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo for a reckless challenge on Kevin De Bruyne
In conversation with talkSPORT (h/t Metro), Professional English footballer Trevor Sinclair has condemned Manchester United attacker Cristiano Ronaldo for his ‘naughty’ tackle on Kevin De Bruyne.
The Portuguese has become a solitary figure in their forward lineup at times and is trying his best to carry the team on his shoulders. His frustration with the lack of attacking threat has been evident in the last few matches. The Red Devils have struggled to maintain their consistency and have leaked goals at the back consistently.
The 36-year-old has been one of the few glimmers of hope for the Old Trafford outfit this season. He has already scored nine goals and provided one assist in 13 games across all competitions for the Red Devils this season. Despite these impressive stats, the former Real Madrid player had a relatively quiet game against the Citizens.
Sinclair spoke about the incident between De Bruyne and Ronaldo. He highlighted that the reaction wasn’t appropriate under any circumstance: Ronaldo got away with a yellow card but the tackle sure looked nasty and ill advised.
‘‘I know it’s only one foot, but he’s jumped in with his studs showing. I thought it was a little bit naughty.It’s a little bit of frustration, but it’s not OK. I hope De Bruyne is OK because it’s a really poor challenge. It’s a coward’s challenge. He’s got away with a couple, the one with [Liverpool’s] Curtis Jones as well. He’s got a temper because he’s a winner. He doesn’t like losing.’
Ronaldo had a similar incident in their fixture against Liverpool in the PL this season. He was cautioned for his tackle on Curtis Jones as the frustration of a humiliating loss was evident. The Merseysiders trashed them 5-0 at Old Trafford. Their recent results have put a lot of pressure on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his entire squad.
Manchester United could not create any sustained attacking threat and barely managed to trouble Ederson throughout the game. This combined with a shaky defence was the reason for their downfall. David De Gea managed to pull off some decent saves to keep the visitors from increasing their tally on the day.

The 36-year-old forward has a winning mentality which is evident by his behaviour on the pitch. It may get a little out of hand at times but the lack of initiative from the rest of the squad can take its toll on even the best of players. The Manchester United supporters will be hoping that the club can improve their performances in the games to come.
