Transfer News: Barcelona uneasy over Ousmane Dembele contract extension amidst Manchester United contact

According to Cuatro (h/t The Express), Barcelona are feeling uneasy over a new contract for Ousmane Dembele amidst fears of Manchester United contact.

The 24-year-old has less than 12 months on his current deal at the Nou Camp and is yet to provide the club with dividends over the €147million spent by them to sign the Frenchman.

Although a bright talent when he came to the club, Dembele has gone on to miss 95 games due to injuries. However, despite recurring issues, the Blaugrana are keen to keep him at the club beyond this season.

While that is the case and Barcelona have proposed a contract extension, they are unsure whether the winger himself would be open to signing the new deal. There is a lot of ‘uneasiness’ regarding his future while both president Joan Laporta and vice-president Rafael Yuste are optimistic about a new deal.

The uneasiness, however, is because they feel the player’s agent, Moussa Sissoko, is in contact with several clubs, including Manchester United.

The Red Devils are said to be one of the clubs keen on getting a deal over the line for the French international, and landing him on a free transfer would certainly be a clever coup.

Additionally, given that Jesse Lingard and Edinson Cavani could leave the club on a free transfer next summer, getting in an attacker with a younger age profile would be a smart decision. However, English rivals Liverpool, Serie A giants Juventus, and Ligue 1 heavyweights Paris Saint-Germain are also apparently interested in a deal for the 24-year-old.

Regardless, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would be looking to add the winger to their ranks and fend off competition from the rivals as they look to strengthen their squad.
