Boost for Manchester United as Barcelona decide to not sign Borussia Dortmund ace Erling Haaland
Speaking in an interview (h/t The Metro), Barcelona vice-president Rafa Yuste has confirmed that the club cannot afford to sign Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland, thereby handing a huge boost to Manchester United.
The Red Devils added handsomely to their squad this summer by bringing in the likes of Raphael Varane, Jadon Sancho, and Cristiano Ronaldo. While the latter duo were additions to the frontline, United are already said to be plotting a move for Sancho’s former teammate Erling Haaland.
The fearless Norwegian has knocked in 68 goals in 67 games for the German outfit in the last year and a half and is said to be available for a fee in the region of £63.7million next summer.
While several clubs have been keen on a deal for him, Barcelona vice-president Rafa Yuste has confirmed that the Blaugrana club cannot afford him. He told reporters in an interview (h/t The Metro):
‘No [we can’t afford him] (Haaland). The president and the CEO said it, that in the previous term, which I also reiterate that it has been disastrous, they bought players without knowing if they could pay and that all they did was increase the debt, in addition to finding us the mass salary that we have encountered.’
This would be a huge boost for the Red Devils, as they are understood to be keen on reuniting Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with his former Molde pupil.

A strike partnership between Haaland and Ronaldo would be a dream come true, and the Old Trafford outfit would be smart to make a serious push for the striker next summer.
However, while Barcelona have ruled themselves out of the race, United would still have to fend off the likes of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City to secure the 21-year-old’s signature.
