Frank McAvennie feels Manchester United will spend big in January
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Football Insider, Frank McAvennie claimed that Manchester United will spend big in January to strengthen their squad.
The former West Ham United ace believes the Red Devils added well to their squad in the summer but could spend again in January.
Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane, and Jadon Sancho were brought in this summer along wth Tom Heaton, but the club are still below the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City, and Liverpool in the Premier League table.
Their performance in the cup competitions has not been something to write home about either, as they have been knocked out in the EFL Cup while they could face a tricky test in their Champions League group.
McAvennie now believes that United will spend big in January regardless of the future of manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. He told Football Insider:
“I think Man United will go big again in January. They aren’t going to be in the top four unless they really sort themselves out soon. Even if a new manager comes in, they will want to make a signing or two. Even if Ole stays, he has to challenge for the title this season, maybe they could do with another midfielder.
“Chelsea and Man City are doing as well as we all expected. Liverpool are also looking good, so are Everton. I think they will make a signing or two in January.”

While the Old Trafford outfit did strengthen in the summer, as did their rivals, and they could steal a march ahead of the Red Devils if they continue to make similar investments.
There were a lot of questions about United going into the international break, and it remains to be seen whether they will try to solve them by spending big in January.
