Leeds United ready to tie down Kalvin Phillips with new contract amidst Manchester United interest

According to Eurosport, Leeds United are ready to offer Kalvin Phillips a new deal amidst interest in his services from Manchester United.

The Red Devils are keen on bringing in a new defensive midfielder and have earmarked the Leeds ace as an option. Phillips is one of Marcelo Bielsa’s key players and has gone from strength to strength under the Argentine.

Valued at £60m, Phillips represents a better value than Declan Rice. The West Ham United ace had also been linked with United but were put off by his exorbitant asking price

According to the report, Leeds are already in negotiations with Phillips. The 25-year-old is a local lad and has shown little interest in wanting to leave his hometown club.

This adds just another obstacle for United to overcome if they are to land the midfielder. Both United and Leeds are fierce rivals, making a deal for a top player between them rather unlikely.

Daniel James was the last player to cross the bridge, moving from Old Trafford to Elland Road earlier this summer. The Red Devils, on the other hand, have plundered their rivals in the past. Rio Ferdinand, Alan Smith and Eric Cantona all enjoyed great success with the Red Devils.

Manchester United were left in awe of English international Kalvin Phillips who impressed in the Three Lions’ win over Croatia in their European Championship opener at Wembley.

He was also amongst England’s star performers at this summer’s Euros. His dynamism would add much to a United side who are lacking in the area.

Whether he will end up at the Threatre of Dreams remains to be seen.

Last season, Phillips racked up 31 appearances in all competitions and also contributed to 4 goals in the process. He has the best years of his career ahead of him and will only go from strength to strength.
