Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain to battle it out for Manchester United superstar Paul Pogba

According to Mundo Deportivo (h/t ESPN), both Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain are set to battle it out for Manchester United superstar Paul Pogba.

The 28-year-old has enjoyed a sensational start to the 2020/21 season, making seven assists in just five Premier League games so far. The Frenchman is now performing consistently and is very much in demand given his current contract status.

Pogba’s deal at United expires next summer. As things stand, he has shown little inclination to pen fresh terms. Losing United’s record signing for free is a sobering thought indeed.

Both Barcelona and PSG are keen to add a midfielder. If Pogba does see out his contract, he will be by far the most attractive signing of the window. Juventus and Real Madrid also continue to monitor the player’s situation.

The Catalans and the Parisians are also keeping tabs on Franck Kessie. Interestingly the AC Milan ace is also touted as a replacement for Pogba at United. Either way, United’s name appears set to be dragged into the race.

According to the report, Pogba is currently in talks with United regarding a new deal. His agent Mino Raiola has, however, left options open and has refused to commit his client’s future to the club.

Pogba is, on his day, a world-beater and has proven his worth to United in recent months. Losing him would add extra pressure on Bruno Fernandes as the club’s lone creator in central midfield. United should do all they can to keep hold of the imperious Frenchman. Losing him on free will make the impact hurt much more.

This is not the first time that PSG and Barcelona have gone head to head for a free agent in midfield. The duo was keen on Georginio Wijnaldum this summer with PSG eventually winning the race to land him. Whether Pogba will form the crux for next summer’s saga remains to be seen.
