Wayne Rooney backs Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo to play until he is 40
According to The Athletic, Wayne Rooney feels that Cristiano Ronaldo could play till he is 40 years old. The 36-year-old made an emotional return to Manchester United this season from Juventus.
The Portuguese star made the move to Old Trafford for a €15 million deal with €8 million in add-ons. He has reignited the Red Devils squad and is a big boost in their attempt to win trophies again.
Ronaldo is a very different player as compared to his first stint at Manchester United. Rooney believes that he is more of a refined goal scorer now, as compared to the pacy dribbler and skilful player early in his career.
Ronaldo returned early from the international break so that he could get accustomed to life at United once again. Hailing his attitude and physical condition, Rooney, who is the current Derby County manager said,
“His ability is obviously one thing, but then he’s also looked after himself massively, you can see the shape he’s in, he’s still in great condition….. So it wouldn’t surprise me if he’s playing until he’s 40, like Giggsy did, and still scoring goals.”
Rooney also touched on the fact that Ronaldo’s teammates will have to work much harder on the pitch.
The Premier League may not be as physical as it was, but it still demands a lot from players. Cristiano’s presence is already having a boosting effect on many players in the dressing room.
