Manchester United ready to make Paul Pogba their highest-paid player but he remains unconvinced

According to The Daily Mail, Manchester United are ready to ready to offer Paul Pogba a lucrative new contract that will make him their highest-paid player.

The Frenchman is one of the best players in the team and has stepped up his performances since the turn of the year. However with just a year to go on his current deal, his future is yet to be resolved.

United for their part are keen to keep the player and have now made their move. The offer on the table will see the 28-year-old net £400,000 per week over the next five years. It represents a significant upgrade on his current £290,000-a-week wages, making him the club’s top earner.

According to the report, Pogba is yet to agree to the club’s terms. The club is keen to tie him down to his best years and a new deal represents that commitment. More so, it will also help preserve his transfer value.

The club’s record signing, to watch him walk away for nothing next year is a sobering thought. The Frenchman will now assess his options before making a decision.

Pogba has garnered the attention of French giants Paris Saint-Germain. The Ligue 1 side however have gone big on Lionel Messi and a move for Pogba must wait until next summer.

A move to the Parc des Princes next summer could prove more lucrative to Pogba, at least in financial terms. PSG are ready to fork out £510,000-a-week in wages should he join them for free in 11 months time. Such a deal is very hard to march for any club, let alone United.

Both Real Madrid and Barcelona are also interested ins securing the player’s services. However, neither side are in a secure financial position to fork out the required money. It would appear that PSG are firmly in the driving seat for now. Whether United could make their case in the weeks to come remains to be seen.

Pogba starred in United’s season opener against Leeds United last weekend. He grabbed four assists on the night as the Red Devils won the game 5-1. If anything, the performance would only have emboldened United’s desire to keep hold of him.
