Report: Man United ready to hand blockbuster signing Raphael Varane his debut soon

Raphael Varane could soon be on the pitch for Manchester United

According to the Manchester Evening News (h/t Express), Manchester United star Raphael Varane is set to be included in the club’s matchday squad for their game against Southampton in the coming weekend.

In a move which is said to be worth £40million, Varane signed his Manchester United contract last week, after which, he was unveiled as a Red Devil in front of the Old Trafford audience before kick-off against Leeds United.

The Frenchman received a standing ovation from the fans and is now in pole position to make his debut on Sunday. The 28-year-old is expected to start training with the first team on Tuesday and could be up to match fitness by the end of the week. However, it remains to be seen whether he will have a starting role in the game.

While the Frenchman may not start this week, his arrival has delighted people around the club, including manager Ole Gunnar Solskajer, who talked about the player with immense pleasure. He said (h/t Express):

“I’m absolutely delighted that we have managed to secure one of the best defenders in the world over the last 10 years. Raphael is a proven winner who we have tracked over a long period of time, and we know just how much of a dedicated professional he is”.

The former Real Madrid man was an integral part of the Spanish outfit’s three consecutive Champions League trophies between 2016-2018. Additionally, like new teammate Paul Pogba, Varane also won the World Cup a couple of years ago. A talented defender, the Frenchman could form a great partnership alongside Harry Maguire.

United won comprehensively against Leeds United last weekend, but their attention would now be on Southampton on Sunday, and having a player of Varane’s quality at the back will boost their chances of winning their second game of the season.
