Manchester United can profit if Wilfried Zaha leaves Crystal Palace

According to The Mirror, Manchester United could be set to receive millions if Wilfried Zaha decides to leave Crystal Palace this summer.

Zaha was signed by Manchester United from the South London club in 2013 for £10.58million. However, he was unable to convince the coaches at the club that he is ready for the senior team. Loan spells to Cardiff City and Crystal Palace did not work out either, and the player was then eventually sold back to Palace for £6million in 2015.

However, United inserted a sell-on clause in the player’s contract. This is a trick United went on to use even when they sold Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan two years ago. While Romelu Lukaku’s sell-on clause dictates that the Red Devils will earn up to four to five percent of any future sale of the player, United took it up a notch when they sold Wilfried Zaha.

Zaha’s contract, however, includes a 25% sell-on fee, which would entitle United to 25% of the fee Palace receive from any future sale of the 28-year-old star. Zaha, who was once again crucial for Crystal Palace last season with his 11 goals in 30 games, has been linked with a move to Arsenal this summer.

Knowing the player’s value to their club, Palace are set to hold out for at least £40million for the player, especially since he still has two years remaining on his contract. This would entail United to easily land a double-figure payment from the Ivorian’s sale.

United could receive financial windfall if Zaha leaves Crystal Palace this summer.

Thus, while United have no immediate plans to bring in reinforcements following the combined £100million arrivals of Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho, it could be redistributed for any potential signings as United look to mount a title challenge again this season.
