Andreas Pereira hints at Manchester United exit; wants Fenerbahce move

According to MEN, Andreas Pereira has hinted that he is open to Manchester United exit and wants a move to Fenerbahce. The midfielder has spoken about his ambition to play regularly and that can be at United or some other club as well. He also wants to emulate compatriot Alex at Fenerbahce.

Having joined in 2014, it almost feels like Andreas Pereira has been around for ages. Once seen as a bright star from the academy, Pereira has had several mixed loan spells at clubs like Granada and Valencia. During his time at United, he has shown the occasional promise but it has largely been underwhelming.

The 25-year-old Brazilian midfielder spent the previous season on loan at Lazio. While he did get to see a fair bit of action, his performances were far from impressive. Pereira scored a solitary goal and made four assists in 33 appearances for the club. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Pereira has been given chances in the pre-season and he has impressed a fair bit, especially in the draw against Brentford where he scored a peach of a goal. However, he has spoken about his ambition to play on a more regular basis.

Pereira hints at potential exit

“I’m ready to play, I’m not a boy anymore. I’m a man ready to take responsibility. “I’m sure that with playing time and continuity as a starter in my position, I can show what I’ve done at the academy, I can score more goals and make assists. A player of my position needs the confidence to play and the freedom to dare on the field.

“In Manchester or elsewhere, the time has come to play, to have at least an hour per game on the field, to have the confidence to play. I want to be happy, to feel important. We are focused on looking for the best for my career. That’s what my staff thinks. And I know United want the same.”

Turkish side Fenerbahce have expressed an interest in signing him. While he chose not to divulge much he did hint that he would want to follow in the footsteps of his compatriot Alexsandro de Souza.

“I leave the negotiations to my agent. If the interest is true, it would be great to talk to interested teams and see the project for my career, the importance I will have in the squad and future projection. About Fenerbahce, it’s a country with people passionate about football. And Alex is one of my idols in the position, it would be nice to wear his shirt. Why not? But it all depends on what they want for my career, as well as other interested clubs.”

At this point, there does not seem to be room for Pereira at United. Fair to say he is not really at the quality that United are operating on. Yes, the goal may have been a spectacular one but United have far better options in midfield and letting him go might not hurt us.
