Transfer News: Manchester United prepared to let Axel Tuanzebe leave

According to transfer news from Daily Star, Manchester United are prepared to let Axel Tuanzebe leave. The defender is in the final year of his contract. With United going after a new defender, they are open to his exit. Aston Villa are understood to be interested.

The 23-year-old is a product of the United youth academy. Despite having made his first-team debut in 2017, Tuanzebe hasn’t been able to carve out a regular spot for himself in the side. Tuanzebe had a couple of impressive loan stints away at Aston Villa. But having returned in the summer of 2019, the 23-year-old has struggled with injuries, which has hampered his development.

Even when he has been fit, the form of first-choice defenders Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof has kept him out of the side. As his luck would have it, even when Lindelof was dropped, Bailly stepped in with some impressive showings. All that has left Tuanzebe as the fourth choice defender at the club.

Now, as United try to go after a new central defender, they are willing to let Tuanzebe leave (h/t Daily Star). He is in the final year of his current deal, meaning that United will need to cash in on the English defender. Aston Villa are keen to sign him as they have previously had him on loan in 2018 and 2019.

It’s hard to point out faults in Tuanzebe as he has performed well in the rare chances that he has been given. However, he might not get to the levels that United want if he is afforded so little game time. Selling him to Villa might not be an entirely bad idea after all.
