Manchester United will need to pay £60million to sign Sergej Milinkovic-Savic

According to Italian outlet Calcio Mercato (h/t The Mirror), Manchester United will need to fork out £60million to land Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

The 26-year-old’s contract at Lazio runs until 2024, giving the Italians leeway when it comes to negotiations. They do not appear to be in the mood to sell off their prized asset on the cheap.

One of the Italian top-flight’s best midfielders, the Serbian has also attracted attention from Liverpool. The Merseysiders are keen to strengthen their squad following the departure of Georginio Wijnaldum this summer. Whether Milinkovic-Savic is that man remains to be seen.

Milinkovic-Savic has however also attracted attention from other clubs including United. The Red Devils have been long-term admirers of the Serbian but reports of any move for him have gone cold of late.

With the likes of Eduardo Camavinga linked, it is plausible that we have moved on from the Lazio star. While he remains a top player, it does not make sense for us to pay £60m when the former can be obtained for a lesser price.

As things stand, Liverpool are open to landing Milinkovic-Savic. We appear to have our targets identified and the Serbian does not appear to be at the top of any of our lists.

Having joined from Genk in 2015, the Serbian has gone on to make 247 appearances for Lazio. During that time, he has managed to score 47 goals and 38 assists across all competitions. He has also won 21 caps for Serbia, scoring three goals. (h/t Transfermarkt)

The midfielder was voted Lazio’s player of the season for 2020/21.

With the futures of both Paul Pogba and Donny van de Beek under the scanner, United could be set to add to their midfield this summer. As things stand, the chances of Milinkovic-Savic arriving as a recruit appear remote.
