Manchester United not to make a move for Cristiano Ronaldo this summer

According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United are not interested in bringing back Cristiano Ronaldo to Old Trafford in the upcoming summer transfer window.

The 36-year-old has been heavily linked with a return to the Theatre of Dreams in recent weeks. While Ole Gunnar Solskjaer remains an ardent admirer, a move is not on the cards.

The Red Devils have already prepared their list of targets for the summer transfer window. The likes of Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane make the cut but Ronaldo is nowhere to be seen.

Ageing like fine wine

In fact, it appears to have been the case for the past few years. While a return to United has often been mooted, the club does not appear to have the same intentions.

Ronaldo has one year remaining on his deal in Turin. Given his age and contract situation, he could be available on the cheap this summer.

At 36, he still continues to deliver. Ronaldo not only topped the Serie A scoring charts but also won the best striker award for the 2020/21 campaign.

United have other priorities

One final hurrah?

The Portuguese legend is not short of suitors. Ronaldo has also been linked with Paris Saint-Germain and with a move to the MLS. His agent Jorge Mendes has however ruled out a return to his boyhood club, Sporting Lisbon.

Juventus want to get the 36-year-old off the wage bill. Moreover, the Portugal international is unhappy with the decision to appoint Massimiliano Allegri as Andrea Pirlo’s replacement.

Given what the Italian himself had to say in the past, there is clearly no love lost between the pair. It is fair to say that he could be on the move this summer, but maybe not to United.
