Manchester United or PSG could be involved in a swap deal for Cristiano Ronaldo this summer
According to Gazzetta Dello Sport (h/t The Express), Manchester United have been given renewed hope of signing Cristiano Ronaldo with the legendary star expected to leave Juventus this summer.
Both United and Paris Saint-Germain are keen on the player. Despite turning 36, Ronaldo not only topped the Serie A scoring charts but also won the best striker award for the 2020/21 campaign.
The Turin giants want to get the 36-year-old off the wage bill. Moreover, the Portugal international is unhappy with the decision to appoint Massimiliano Allegri as Andrea Pirlo’s replacement. Given what the Italian himself had to say in the past, there is clearly no love lost between the pair.
According to the report, any move by either us or PSG will include a major star going the other way. Paul Pogba could be the player from Old Trafford while Mauro Icardi could make way at the Parc des Princes.
Pogba has never hidden his admiration for Juventus, with who he spent four successful years earlier in his career – winning the Scudetto four times on the trot. Also, it was in Turin that he developed into a world-class player.
With just one year left on his current deal, United have a decision to make on the Frenchman’s future. A swap with Ronaldo may sound good on paper, but Juventus will clearly come out having gotten themselves the better end of the stick.
A second chance?
With Ronaldo potentially gone, Juventus will need to replace his goals. After all, the 36-year-old was by far the most potent goal threat at the club.
Icardi could never reach his potential at PSG and could be on the move once again. A prodigiously talented player, he never quite reached the levels expected of him.

A major obstacle will however be Ronaldo’s massive wages. He earns an incredible £28million per year at Juventus and will need to take a wage cut to return to Old Trafford.
The Glazers are under pressure and are eyeing big-name signings this summer. Red Devils manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer too is in touch with his former teammate. (h/t The Express)
