Gary Neville names the three positions Manchester United need to strengthen in the summer
Speaking to Sky Sports (h/t Sports Review), Manchester United legend Gary Neville has named the three positions he wants the club to strengthen in the summer.
The Red Devils have shown much progress this season. However as we have seen in the Champions League and the Premier League, we are still 2-3 top-quality additions away from competing at the elite level.
This puts the club in an interesting position heading into the summer window. Bringing in the right players could very well make us title challengers next season.
Neville believes the Red Devils need three keen reinforcements. It includes a right-winger, a striker and a defender.
“I would bring in a right winger – I think it’s a problem position for United – a centre-forward and a centre-back.”
Neville believes Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof are doing the best they can as a pair. United however need better, making a centre-back one of our priority targets.
“To go up to that next level, which United need to, I think a really dominant centre-back pairing.”
A key attacking role!
Neville also goes on to add that a right-winger is a top priority. He believes Mason Greenwood is the only player who can play effectively in the position and United will need to bring in reinforcements.
“I think that if Paul Pogba was to leave I’d look at maybe bringing in a midfield player. But I think at the moment, [Mason] Greenwood is the only one who can play off the right>’
Daniel James is interestingly our only senior specialist right-winger. The Welshman has impressed but has lacked any sort of consistency. The fact that Neville has not even mentioned him speaks much about the topic.
