Solskjaer jumps to the defence of the Glazers after European Super League

Manchester United manager Solskjaer misses opportunity to make a point to the Glazers after ESL saga

According to ESPN, Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer refused to speak out against the Glazers as the fallout from our ill-advised commitment to the European Super League (ESL) continues.

The Red Devils were among the 12 clubs who committed to the breakaway Super League. Following much outcry, a number of teams including the Red Devils pulled out.

However, it did little to lower the angst of the fans against the Glazers, leading to protests both on social media and outside Carrington on Thursday.

Solskjaer is happy that the Glazers withdrew United from the competition and admitted their mistake. The notoriously quiet Joel Glazer also penned an open letter to the fans apologizing for the miscalculation and promising to rebuild trust.

“I’m so happy all the owners said this was a mistake.”

The Norwegian went on to admit that he shares a good relationship with the American oligarchs. He went on to add that the Glazers listen to his opinion and remain committed to the club’s cause.

“I’ve always had a good working relationship with the owners. They listen to my opinions and we are working to move Man United forward.”

A missed opportunity?

The Glazers have never been popular faces at Ole Trafford since their takeover of the club in 2005. While Solskjaer may have taken a rather diplomatic stand against the Americans, he cannot claim to echo the sentiments of the fans.

Perhaps ironically Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp publically spoke up against his owners earning him praise from even Gary Neville. Solskjaer the pacifist might have just lost an opportunity to make himself and the voices that support him be heard loud and clear.

Fans meanwhile are looking to intensify their protests against the American owners in the weeks to come. Another protest is being planned to take place before the side’s meeting with Liverpool at Old Trafford in the first week of May.

As a player, Solskjaer was nicknamed the baby faced assassin for obvious reason. As a manager, it would appear he is hesitant to pull the trigger.
