Cristiano Ronaldo eyes Manchester United return after Florentino Perez rules out Madrid reunion

According to Gazzetta Dello Sport (h/t Sport Witness), Portuguese legend Cristiano Ronaldo has turned his attentions to a return to Manchester United.

The 36-year-old’s decision comes following the statements made by Real Madrid president Florentino Perez earlier this week. In an explosive interview, the Los Blancos honcho ruled out Ronaldo returning to the Santiago Bernabeu.

While Ronaldo is fine at Juventus, he is not exactly happy enough to commit his future to the Italian giants. A competitive player, the veteran attacker has been left frustrated by the way Juventus’ season has gone so far.

Not only are they not in the running for the Scudetto but also bowed out meekly from the UEFA Champions League. The same cannot be said of Ronaldo, who continues to impress.

Despite his age, the Portuguese phenom leads both Juventus and Serie A scoring charts and has been their best player this season. With him in the final years of his career, Ronaldo is keen to garner more success, especially in Europe.

Testing the waters

While Juventus appear to be a team on the decline, United are putting together a squad capable of taking them back to the top. This does not appear to be lost on Ronaldo, who has urged his agent Jorge Mendes to look into a potential return to Old Trafford.

For now, the chances of such a deal happening are not very high. Given the current political climate, United will struggle to match the player’s generous €31m annual wages.

However, it remains to be seen if there will be any new developments in the future.
