Transfer News: Manchester United in a three-way tussle to land Samuel Umtiti on the cheap

According to Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo (h/t The Express), Manchester United will need to fend off interest from Arsenal and Liverpool for Samuel Umtiti.

With Eric Garcia expected to leave Manchester City for Barcelona, Umtiti will become surplus to requirements at the Camp Nou. This could indeed be welcome news for the Red Devils.

The Catalans are only expected to demand a nominal fee, saving Premier League sides millions of pounds in the process. Given the number of positions that need reinforcing this summer, United can ensure that money can now be used elsewhere.

Manchester Untied are interested in Samuel Umtiti

The likes of Erling Haaland, Jadon Sancho and even Harry Kane will not come cheap. Bringing in Umtiti could boost United’s chances of coughing up what is needed to land them.

The Red Devils are in desperate need of a reliable defender to star alongside skipper Harry Maguire in defence. The likes of Pau Torres, Jules Kounde, Raphael Varane and even Joachim Andersen have been considered as potential additions.

Umtiti on his day is a classy player who can hold his own at the back. Unfortunately, injuries have ruined what could have been a potentially great career in Catalunya.

Still just 27, Umtiti is currently in his prime. Provided he can get over his injury concerns, he can be a key player for United going forward.

Umtiti is an excellent defender who is good both on the ground and in the air. The challenge remains to get him fit enough to take the field. Bringing him in for a throwaway price would be well worth the risk.
