According to The Times (Subscription Required), Manchester United have been given a new asking price for Jadon Sancho.

The Red Devils have monitored the young winger for some time now. Our efforts to land him last summer came to nothing, thanks to Dortmund’s asking price and their refusal to reduce the fee.

The Germans are now ready to part ways with the player for £86million this summer, especially if they fail to qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League.

Sancho is amongst Europe’s top talents

The Bundesliga giants are currently seven points off the final Champions League berth with eight games to go. It is fair to say that their return to Europe’s top table is far from a sure thing.

Dortmund’s new asking price is considerably lower than the £108m they sought last season. United were ready to fork out £80m and it remains to be seen if they are willing to meet the new valuation.

The Red Devils have not been immune to the financial aftereffects of the coronavirus pandemic. Extra transfer funds may be raised by selling the likes of Jesse Lingard, Anthony Martial and Nemanja Matic. (h/t The Express)

While we may have missed out on Sancho last summer, United did add to their right-wing by bringing in Facundo Pellistri and Amad Diallo. Moreover, Daniel James has shown a marked improvement in the position.

While there are options out there, none of them has the same game-winning traits as Sancho. Bringing in the Englishman would certainly give our attack the x-factor.

Dortmund CEO Hans Joachim-Watzke earlier admitted that the Germans are ready to listen to ‘exceptional’ offers for Sancho. With the asking price now clear, the onus is now on United to make their move.
