Loan Watch: Manchester United loanee Facundo Pellistri suffers fibrillar tear

Spanish side Deportivo Alaves have confirmed on their official site that Manchester United star Facundo Pellistri has suffered from an injury.

The young winger joined United last summer but is yet to make his debut for the club. He joined Alaves on loan in January and has since made six appearances for the La Liga strugglers.

While he is yet to make a goal contribution, Pellistri has shown flashes of brilliance and even put in a decent performance against Atletico Madrid prior to the international break.

Unfortunately, he was taken off against Celta Vigo last Sunday and tests have revealed a fibrillar tear in the short portion of the left femoral biceps. While the injury is not expected to be serious, it has prevented him from exercising with his teammates.

Pellistri will now undergo conservative treatment and will be evaluated on a day-to-day basis. Once ready, he will join up with his teammates again.

Alaves are currently bottom of the league and are looking increasingly likely to get relegated. They are currently three points from safety, with nine games to go.

Pellistri is yet to experience a win since joining the club in January. Alaves take on Athletic Club this weekend and it remains to be seen if Pellistri will be rushed back to face them.

The youngster may not have joined the best team, but it has allowed him to garner competitive experience since moving to Europe last summer. While he has impressed at the top level for Penarol in Uruguay, European football is a different beast.

Pellistri will return to United a better player, who will have learned from his experience. Whether the club plan to keep him on or send him on another loan in the summer remains to be seen.
