Manchester United committed over a new deal for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
According to ESPN, Manchester United are firm on their stance of handing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer irrespective of whether the club wins a trophy this season.
Solskjaer took over the reins at the club in December 2018 following a rocky end to Jose Mourinho’s spell at Old Trafford. Appointed on an interim basis, the Norwegian did a sterling job in the first few months, enough to convince the board to make his appointment permanent.
Under Solskjaer, Manchester United have made definite progress but there has been no tangible success as the club failed to win any trophies in the last season, crashing out of the semi-finals in the UEFA Europa League, the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup.
A similar fate could befall us this term as well, with the team already out of the domestic cup competitons, leaving the Europa League as the only possible avenue of a trophy at the end of the season.
Solskjaer, meawhile, is set to enter the final year of his three-year contract that he signed in 2019. And Manchester United are committed to handing him a new contract even if the 48-year-old fails to lead the club to the Europa League triumph.
That is because the higher-ups at Manchester United believe that there has been plenty of progress at the club, both on and off the field, enough to warrant a new contract for Solskjaer.

Manchester United have a long-term plan in place with Solskjaer in mind and had consulted him prior to the appointment of John Murtough and Darren Fletcher in directorial roles.
There is no denying that Solskjaer has done a solid job of steadying the ship given where the club was at when he took over. However, question marks remain as to whether he is the right man to take us to the next level. The board seems to have faith that he is. So, a new contract could be imminent.
