Donny van de Beek situation at Manchester United addressed by Frank de Boer

Speaking to Voetbal International (h/t Mirror), Netherlands manager Frank de Boer has had his say on the situation of Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek.

Van de Beek arrived at Manchester United last summer from AFC Ajax for £35m. Having been brilliant for the last couple of seasons with the Dutch giants, his arrival was greeted with much excitement.

However, things haven’t exactly worked out according to plans for the midfielder or Manchester United so far. Van de Beek hasn’t been able to convince manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer enough to start him on a regular basis this term.

As a result, the Dutchman has made just two league starts all season long and has largely been limited to appearances from the bench. This has resulted in speculations surrounding his future at the club.

At the same time, his place in the Netherlands national team has also come under threat ahead of the summer’s European Championships. De Boer has offered an insight into Van de Beek’s situation admitting that it is difficult but adding that the midfielder is determined to prove himself.

“His situation is more difficult. He is in the early stages of his career. I wouldn’t immediately throw the towel in either. He still wants to show himself. I think it is a logical step that he wants to fight in the team. Let’s hope that will happen. I have not had any doubts yet.”
