Donny van de Beek ready to call time on Manchester United nightmare
Manchester United looked to have got themselves a coup when they landed Dutch international Donny van de Beek last summer.
The 23-year-old was the club’s marquee signing of the summer and looked the part early on. In fact, he scored on his debut against Crystal Palace and was bright in his first start for the club in the Carabao Cup.
The future looked bright but little did one know it was as good as it got for the flamboyant midfielder.
Van de Beek has made 26 appearances for the club with the majority of them coming off the bench. In fact, he has started just two times in the Premier League this season on course to playing 1053 minutes across all competitions. (h/t Transfermarkt)
According to the Daily Star, the player appears to have enough and is set for showdown talks with Ed Woodward. He believes there is no future for him at Old Trafford and is keen to start afresh at a new club in the summer.
Van de Beek was with a mystery injury for the last month but could be available again for United’s trip to AC Milan in the Europa League on Thursday. Whether he makes the squad is another matter though.
There is talk aplenty that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer never wanted to sign Van de Beek in the first place. Given the way he has been sparingly used, one would think there is an element of truth there.

Van de Beek was warned earlier in the season that his troubles at United could cost him a spot in this summer’s European championships. Given the peripheral role he has played so far, once wouldn’t be surprised if that’s the case.
At just 23, he has his whole future ahead of him. Whether that will be at United or elsewhere remains to be seen.
