Scott McTominay reveals half-time team talk for Manchester United against West ham
Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay was talking to Sky Sports (h/t Manchester Evening News) after the win vs West Ham on Sunday and revealed what Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told them at half-time to inspire a 1-0 win.
The Red Devils created a couple of big chances in the first half but a Lukasz Fabianski save from Mason Greenwood’s shot was as close as they came to breaking the deadlock.
United have been accustomed to teams sitting back against them in recent times. West Ham sat back deep as well, and as a result, had no attempts on goal in the first 45 minutes.
And the Scottish midfielder revealed that Solskjaer asked the team at half-time to play at a high tempo and remain patient.
“The message at half-time was to keep it the same, keep trying to play at the best tempo we can possibly play at, keep working the ball side to side and we’ll get an opener. It came from a set-piece and it was a fortunate one as well.”
A vital win
The Red Devils hung on to a 1-0 lead, which was a relief considering the memories a late AC Milan goal in the UEFA Europa League were still very fresh.
And McTominay said that sitting back to protect a lead in the closing stages is nothing to be ashamed of.
“There’s no shame about playing against West Ham at home and doing all of the professional things to win a football match – that’s sometimes how you win football games.”

The match offered a real chance for the Hammers to make a go for top-4 at the expense of making United anxious. But instead, a win for Solskjaer’s men now sees them in 2nd place, 9 points clear of David Moyes’ side in 5th place.
