“Can trust them”: Solskjaer backs under-fire Man United duo to come good

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reiterates faith in Manchester United duo Fred and Scott McTominay

According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has backed midfield duo Fred and Scott McTominay to come good for the club.

The Red Devils duo have often started together as a double pivot under the Norwegian. While they have enjoyed success, they have also come in for criticism.

Solskjaer certainly has a good opinion of the pair and believes the club has benefitted from their partnership. The United boss does not appear to be in any mood to change it.

“First of all, the stats for those two together, we have had many good results.”

Solskjaer goes on to add that both Fred and McTominay bring much desire and energy to play. The duo has been backed to give all they have, thus earning their manager’s trust.

“The energy and desire. I really like to have the two of them. I can trust them to give us what they’ve got.”

The Norwegian has downplayed fans’ displeasure at the duo’s limitations. He is right in saying that supporters will always have an opinion. Even if we do change our midfield pairing, it is unlikely to gain universal appeal.

“Fans will always have opinions, it is easy to say who should be playing.”

Solskjaer has faith in his players’ ability.

Solskjaer’s efforts to protect his players from criticism is praiseworthy. However, he does have to take into account that for all of their drive and energy, Fred and McTominay offer little going forward.

This lack of dynamism tends to unhinge the midfield, often displaying a lack of imagination in the middle of the park. Sooner or later, it is something we will need to address.

Both Fred and McTominay are available for our crunch clash against Villarreal later tonight. The duo now has an opportunity to back their manager’s faith in them and silence their doomsayers. Whether they will take it or not remains to be seen.
