Sinclair: Declan Rice would walk into the Manchester United midfield

Speaking on TalkSport, Trevor Sinclair believes West Ham United star Declan Rice would walk into the Manchester United midfield.

The 21-year-old is one of the best young English midfielders in the league. He has emerged as a key player for the Hammers and has been central to their good start this season.

An all-action midfielder who can also play in defence, Rice’s versatility will offer United different options. Given his age, he can be a long-term choice to anchor the United midfield.

“Rice walks into the Manchester United side.”

Sinclair believes Rice would be excellent alongside Scott McTominay. The Scot has been one of United’s best players this season and is enjoying his most prolific season in Red.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer usually uses a double pivot of McTominay and Fred against top sides. The duo has developed an excellent understanding and use their athleticism to great effect.

“Rice goes alongside McTominay [at Man United]. For me, he’s better than Fred.”

Sinclair believes Rice would be an upgrade over Fred and would fit right in at Old Trafford.

Rice could replace Fred in the Untied XI

Chelsea were believed to be leading the race for Rice’s signature. The Blues were heavily linked with a move for the 21-tear-old during Frank Lampard’s reign.

With the Blues legend now gone, the Chelsea hierarchy do not appear keen to follow up on their interest in the Englishman. This could give United the impetus they need to get the deal done.

Rice is an excellent player whose best years are still ahead of him. Securing him would add to the promising young talent currently thriving at the Theatre of Dreams.

Jesse Lingard, who is on loan at West Ham, can hopefully put in a good word to the Hammers star.
