“I’ll never regret” – Juan Veron makes a surprising remark about his Manchester United stay

Juan Veron makes a surprising remark about his Manchester United stay

Former Argentine star Juan Sebastian Veron is possibly the biggest flop Manchester United have signed in the Premier League era.

Given that we have seen the likes of Alexis Sanchez of late, that statement holds some gravitas. However, those who have seen the player in action will argue that the limitless Argentine was a nightmare come alive at the Theatre of Dreams.

Veron won one Premier League title in his two years as a Red Devil before being sold to Chelsea in 2003.

Speaking to Four Four Two (h/t Daily Mail), the midfielder claims he does not look back at the decision to join United with regret.

“I’ll never regret joining Manchester United – I wished I’d stayed there longer.”

Veron, who made a name for himself at Lazio, was sceptical about life in England. However, at United, he didn’t just meet a special club but he met one filled with people keen to help him succeed.

“I found an extraordinary club. You could hardly find one as well-organised, with so many people willing to help.”

A difficult change to adapt to!

Veron believes the physical aspect of the game in England was something that impacted him adversely. Used to a less demanding schedule in Italy, the Argentine was not conditioned to succeed in England.

“If there was one thing that played against me, I’d say it was the physical conditioning.”

Capable of the sublime and the ridiculous, Veron was a truly gifted player whose football makes for some incredible watching. Once can view all his goals and assists in a United jersey below. (h/t Youtube)

Veron left United having made 11 goals and 11 assists in 82 games. While one would argue that it represented a decent contribution, it was minute given his talent.

It is good to know that Veron looks back at his time at Old Trafford with joy. He is also in touch with a number of his former United teammates.

The Argentine had all the ability to become a United legend. Instead, he is today seen as one of our biggest busts in the Premier League era.
