Manchester United will need to pay €25m to land Atletico Madrid starlet Marco Moreno
According to Spanish publication AG Deportes, Manchester United failed with a €3million bid for Atletico Madrid wonderkid Marco Moreno in the recent past.
The 19-year-old is one of Atletico’s top youngsters and would have been an excellent addition to our burgeoning list of young talents.
A defender, Moreno arrived at the Wanda Metropolitano in 2016 from Las Palmas. He has since worked his way up to their B side and is held in high regard.
Moreno was in much demand even before he moved to Atletico. The likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Villarreal were all keen on signing the teenager.
According to the report, United came close to paying the youngster’s €3m release clause during his first year as a youth player in Atletico. He has since signed improved terms, meaning we will need to fork out €25m to land him.
There is no indication as to why a deal could not be reached back then. Given the number of defenders at the club, one can only assume there was no pressing need.
This has not stopped United from going big on other youth prospects. The Red Devils have signed a number of such players and could be on the verge of bringing through an era of dominance.
Two high-profile youngsters amongst these are Facundo Pellistri and Amad Diallo. The former is currently on loan at Deportivo Alaves while the latter was included in our matchday squad to face West Ham yesterday.
