Jamie Carragher believes Manchester United can win the title this season
Writing in his latest column in The Telegraph (subscription required), as cited by Manchester Evening News, Jamie Carragher said he believes Manchester United have what it takes to win the league this season.
Manchester United went into 2021 trailing Liverpool by just 3 points. The Red Devils then went joint top after the 2-1 win against Aston Villa, trailing the league leaders on goal difference.
The win against Aston Villa was United’s 8th win in the league in their last 10 league matches. In that time, they haven’t lost in the Premier League as well.
Late wins such as the ones against Southampton and Wolverhampton Wanderers have only gone to show the side’s title-winning credentials this season. And now, they have won over a legend who played for their rivals.
Serious contenders
Jamie Carragher mentions that the Red Devils can win the title. He says this not because he thinks they have improved massively, but because of their ability to get the result at the end of the day.
“The more I see them, the more convinced I am that it could happen.”
The Liverpool legend makes this claim as he believes United’s title rivals have dropped back this season. He says that United could benefit from this season where the title winner might not need a lot of points.
“…the title could be won with little more than 80 points. United are among those who could hit that mark.”
However, the former England international said that United are not without their problems and have room for improvement. He believes that the team needs to sort out their home form and figure out their goalkeeper situation.
