Manchester United make a formal offer for Bayern Munich star David Alaba

According to the Express, Manchester United have made a formal bid for Bayern Munich star David Alaba.

The Austrian international appears to be on his way out of Bayern when his contract expires next summer. He is free to discuss a pre-contract agreement with other clubs once the January window opens.

Alaba is a key member of a dominant Bayern Munich side that has won numerous domestic and continental titles in the past decade.

According to the report (h/t Express), arch-rivals Manchester City have also made a formal bid for the player’s services. He has also attracted attention from the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid, Chelsea, and PSG.

The same was confirmed by the club’s chief executive, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. While Bayern would like to keep him, their offer was rejected by the player.

Alaba is a world class player

Rummenigge now remains unclear if negotiations will be reopened in the months to come. However, with January fast approaching, it is fair to assume Alaba appears to be on his way out.

A versatile player who is also good at set-pieces, Alaba would be an incredible addition to the United squad. His experience combined with world-class ability would add dynamism and competence to the United squad.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side has shown enough ability to compete with the top teams. The addition of players such as Alaba to the mix will make us much stronger.

During his 12-year stay at Bayern, Alaba has made 404 appearances, scoring 32 goals and assisting 49. He has also won nine Bundesliga titles, six German Cups, and two Champions League titles. (h/t Transfermarkt)

It is not every day that a player of Alaba’s ability comes onto the Bosman market. It is a no-brainer for us to do all we can to land him.
