Mauricio Pochettino keen to take Manchester United job
According to The Athletic’s Manchester United expert Lurie Whitwell, Mauricio Pochettino is definitely keen to take the hot seat at the Theatre of Dreams.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s position has been called into question after the Red Devils crashed out of the Champions League earlier this week.
United needed just a point from their final two group games to progress to the last 16. However, after back to back losses, they will now compete in the Europa League.
“Pochettino would definitely take the job.”
Despite our struggles, United are still one of the biggest draws in club football. The prospect of taking us back to our perch is a challenge that can guarantee legendary status for the manager who does so.
Pochettino has been out of work since leaving Tottenham last year. A return to United will see him grace the Premier League with a third different team.
“He’s been out of work for more than a year now and United are still one of the best draws in football.”
Misplaced faith?
According to Whitwell, the major obstacle standing in our way is us itself. The club is reluctant to part ways with Solskjaer and do not believe bringing in Pochettino will guarantee success.
The same however can be said of any manager. Solskjaer has now had two years but the club has failed to produce a tangible show of progress under the Norwegian.
He has also failed to get the best out of the players at his disposal, something Pochettino excels at. Despite him not having won trophies as a manager, the Spurs boss is someone who has consistently exceeded expectations.

United’s faith in Solskjaer is well and good. However, we must not let the reputation of Solskjaer the player help cloud that of Solskjaer the manager.
