Manchester United retain faith in under-fire manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
According to The Daily Mail, Manchester United decision-makers have thrown in their weight behind Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The Norwegian came under fire after the Red Devils lost to RB Leipzig on Tuesday ending their participation in this season’s UEFA Champions League.
The club, however, believes there is no cause for alarm and that Solskjaer’s record speaks for itself. Despite failure in Europe, there is hope that a title challenge is on the cards this season.
There is no argument as to the disappointment of the club falling down to the Europa League. However, Solskjaer’s win ratio combined with the squad rebuild under progress has seen him get the nod for now.
The vote of trust should come as a relief for the Norwegian heading into the weekend’s Manchester derby against Pep Guardiola’s side. Solskjaer led United to a hat-trick of wins over the celebrated Catalan last season and will hope for more of the same this Saturday.
United are currently five points off the top and have a game in hand. A win will see us keep pace with Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool, and Chelsea while also putting some daylight between us and Manchester City.
Looking at one side of the coin?
Since Bruno Fernandes’ arrival at Manchester United in January, only Liverpool have won more points than us in the Premier League. Also, we are currently in a better position this season in comparison to the same point last time around.
United are not keen to earn a reputation for hiring and firing, and believe the team are developing into genuine title contenders. Solskjaer’s penchant for giving chance to youth has also worked in his favour.
This does not however mean that support is unconditional. The club will continue to monitor the results in the coming weeks.
While it is admirable to see the club back their manager, it must not be forgotten that one can also choke on the sweetest of meads.

It is true that only Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola have a better win percentage than Solskjaer among managers at top clubs. However, both of them have brought about an identity to their clubs that Solskjaer just hasn’t.
It must not be forgotten that Solskjaer has been in charge for two years now. Despite also being backed in the transfer market, it is hard to pinpoint what United represent as a team.
To put it into perspective, even Jose Mourinho has turned Tottenham around after just a year in charge. Solskjaer may be decent but he has a long way to go before being spoken of in the same breath as Klopp and Guardiola.
