Manchester United fans react as Harry Maguire leads England to an impressive victory over Ireland
Manchester United fans may have been forgiven for mistaking Harry Maguire for Harry Potter yesterday night.
The United skipper put in a magical performance for England as they overcame the Republic of Ireland for the first time in 35 years.
In his first outing as captain, Maguire not only helped keep a clean sheet but also scored at the other end. It was a fitting return for a player who was sent off against Denmark last month.
Maguire gave England the lead in the 18th minute. He rose above his Ireland counterpart Shane Duffy to power home Harry Winks’ cross. The goal settled the Three Lions and put them on course for the win.
It has been a troubling few months for the defender both on and off the pitch. His performance yesterday follows up with the impressive showing against Everton at Goodison Park.
United fans will hope his performances have turned a corner. With the captain back to his best, hopefully, the rest of our team can also follow in his lead.
We take a look at how fans reacted to the performance below.
