Man United’s 19-year-old starlet on Barcelona’s radar

Arnau Puigmal is a target for La Liga giants Barcelona

Manchester United youngster Arnau Puigmal is a target for La Liga giants Barcelona, according to Sport (h/t Metro).

The Spaniard is yet to play for our senior side but has made several appearances at the U23 level. Puigmal has also featured for the Spanish youth team and joined the Red Devils from Espanyol.

The report adds that United beat Barcelona to Puigmal’s signature three years back. However, the Spaniard is now keen on making a return to his home country.

Puigmal was with the United squad that travelled to Astana recently and also made appearances in the EFL Trophy last season.

The Spaniard is a versatile player having featured as a right-back and midfielder during his United career.

He has six months left on his contract and wants to return to Catalunya (h/t Metro). Barcelona, for their part, are willing to bid in the January window and land their player early, according to the report.

The Catalans have had a lot of problems over the past six months, with the Lionel Messi saga only reaching an end before the start of this campaign.

Losing out on a future star?

Manchester United have a ton of talented players for the midfield and right-back spot at the moment, and it is unlikely Puigmal would get a lot of first-team minutes.

The 19-year-old might be homesick and returning to Spain could be the right move for him. Barcelona have done well with some youngsters over the years but many of their talents have also been snapped up by other clubs.

We have done the same by landing Marc Jurado and Alvaro Fernandez from the La Liga giants, and it will be interesting to see if Puigmal does leave us in January or not.
