Manchester United made an unsuccessful bid for Borussia Dortmund star Nico Schulz
According to ESPN (h/t Daily Mail), Manchester United failed in their effort to land Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schulz on deadline day.
While one had an eye on the two clubs eking out a deal for Sancho, it would appear United’s actions had caught even Dortmund unawares.
The Germans were left baffled after the Red Devils made a £1million bid to land the player.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side were keen to loan the German international. United offered to pay all of the 27-year-old’s salary for the rest of the year.
According to the report, Dortmund not only rejected the deal but also questioned the credentials of United’s recruitment team.
The 27-year-old joined Dortmund from fellow Bundesliga side Hoffenheim last summer. He has however been unable to make an impact in the yellow and black.
Primarily a left-back, he can play anywhere along the flank. Having already added Alex Telles, Schulz would have given us ample cover in the position.
Having had a slow summer, deadline day saw United complete a flurry of deals. Apart from Telles, the Red Devils also agreed deals for Edinson Cavani, Amad Diallo and Facundo Pellistri.
